DEAR WORKING PROFESSIONALS: WE ARE A QUESTION AWAY FROM IMPROVING OUR FINANCIAL SITUATION

 What explains one employee earning three times what another working professional is earning? There are several answers to this dilemma but the attention todays article is placed on the importance of asking the right questions. I have found out that the employees who earn thrice their counterparts are unafraid to ask questions. Some working professionals have applied for positions that are way beyond their qualifications and have been promoted simply because they dared to ask.

In a knowledge based generation and with the advent of Artificial Intelligence, there are so many opportunities for making money but our education system does not train us to ask questions. We fear to sell our value thinking that our academic transcripts will do the talking for us. It seems that the courage to ask the right questions can open opportunities for mentorship and this enhances our opportunities to increase our value in the market place and improve our income generating opportunities. Most of the well paid CEOs in highly rated companies attribute their financial trajectory to the mentorship that they received.

The fear of asking tough questions about our financial lives makes many of us to continue making the same mistakes we made in the previous years. I normally mentor a number of university students as they prepare for the unpredictable world of work. A number of university students fear to ask how they can use their skills to add value to humanity and earn money in the process. A number of youths can form investment clubs or Saccos and start pooling resources together and create businesses but fear stops them from asking the right questions that can enable them to solve their current dilemmas.

Asking questions is life liberating and it is a technique that we can use as working professionals to seek solutions to our financial dilemmas.

 I remember during the Trainer of Trainers training conducted by Bank of Uganda we were encouraged to develop a savings plan. This was a key development because without a plan we may live in financial darkness.
