WHY MINDSET CHANGE IS CRITICAL IN FINANCIAL LITERACY

There is no society that is devoid of resources. There is no person without capacity. Countless books that I have read have showed me that mindset is one of the greatest weapons for financial deliverance. For the past 5 years I have been providing grassroot financial literacy training especially among the youths. It has come to my attention that Ugandans have a lot of potential but most of it is still hidden. The elite have a lot of work to do to transform their country. Almost every youth wants to sell off their land to go for greener pastures. The question is who will develop Uganda if all the youths vacate their motherland?

In a nation where over 70% of the population it is important that the youths are trained to focus on opportunities that are prevailing in their nation rather than focusing on problems. The other day a university student missed exams because he gambled his tuition. Gambling has made many able youths drop out of school. Today we live in a generation of youths who prefer to leave on hand outs than working hard to sustain themselves. On the contrary we have youths in developed countries who are planning to set up charities to send aid in Africa. The question is, what is the missing link? Why is it that a university student completes studies and prefer to do nothing yet there are plenty of voluntary opportunities that can help them to gain experience . What if these youths combined efforts to form groups that can enable them to access resources from financial institutions such as Equity Bank. For the past 5 years Equity Bank has trained over 100,000 youths in financial literacy and to access loans. There have been many success stories and this should be an inspiration that any African regardless of age and academic background can transform their financial lives.

In particular there was a youth who accessed a loan and has been able to expand his business and is employing several other youths in his community. We need various testimonies of such youths so that they can inspire other youths to take action. No one should be left behind.
