CHOOSE TO BE A BLESSING

 When the Black Americans were undergoing slave trade a certain Martin Luther King decided to choose a different path. When South Africa was undergoing apartheid the late Nelson Mandela chose a higher path. When Mother Teresa saw the suffering of the poor in Calcutta India, she chose to use her gift of compassion to serve them. These examples should inspire us to take action.

Every day we see challenges around us. The issue is that we cannot solve all of them. The question is what are we doing about the challenges in our families and communities. There are many youths who lack a clear direction in their lives. Who is reaching out to them?  Very many youths have graduated and have no access to decent jobs, who is mentoring them so that they do not lose hope? We see rising incidents of crime especially among the youths. Who is reducing the gap? The knowledge that we acquire is not meant to benefit us individually but we should use it to transform our communities.

I have talked to university graduates who have not taken time to relate their courses to the bigger problems in society. Rather most graduates are focused on acquiring a decent job without first analyzing the relevance to society. There is no "useless degree" .Rather it is the interpretation of the degree that matters. What we have acquired from school is meant to help us build better communities. The New Vision of 24th May 2025 showed that a number of youths had become addicted to gambling to the extent that some drop out of school. These are the future leaders and if their mindsets are addicted to gambling as a means of coping with life , where are we headed as a nation?

HOW TO TURN OUR LIVES INTO A BLESSING.

1.Think long term

2.Set clear life goals

3.Develop a service mindset

4. Be teachable

5.Seek mentorship 

6.Discover our purpose early in life.

Life is a gift from God and should not be wasted. So many young people are abusing their potential simply because they are not guided. Some only view life from an angle of acquiring money. But life is more that status or money.

A SAVINGS PLAN CAN AID IN FINANCIAL ADVANCEMENT

 I remember during the Trainer of Trainers training conducted by Bank of Uganda we were encouraged to develop a savings plan. This was a key development because without a plan we may live in financial darkness. WE CELEBRATE GRADUATION BUT AFTER THAT WHAT NEXT ?

 Uganda is officially dominated by young people. Over 50 %of the population are youths. With a high population the job market also shrinks yet people need to survive. It is the means of survival that create social pressure. The unemployment dilemma in the country can be dissected from different angles and each person or all stakeholders have a critical role to play.  Universities and other institutions of higher learning produce over 300,000 graduates per year. The job creation rate is about 70,000 jobs per year. This means that the job market is narrow. It is a common sight to see over 100 applicants for one job. This is a signal that something drastic must be done to change this trajectory.
