WHAT WE CAN EMULATE FROM GREAT COMPANIES ABOUT PURPOSE

 How comes certain companies began from garages and today are global entities. Equity Bank started as a small building society in Kenya and today is a leading financial conglomerate in Africa. With a clear purpose a company is able to focus on the long term instead of immediate pursuits. Simon Sinek popularized the concept of Why . We have a lot to learn from successful companies as individuals.

Iam always amazed by those individuals who seek to change the world with their gifts. When we read about their stories and how they started many of them started from a disadvantaged point of view. The likes of Thomas Edison who failed over 1000 times shows that he had a bigger vision that pursuing personal interests. Dr. Ben Carson was always the last in class and today he is a leading neurosurgeon. The late Dr. Myles Munroe was born in a poor family in Bahamas but he resolved from a young age that he would serve God. By the time of his death he was an international preacher and an advisor to governments. Mother Tereza decided to use her gift of kindness to serve the poor in Calcutta India. 

The above examples should encourage us to dream and have a clear purpose for our lives. We should not live in our past but we must learn from our past so that we can live a better tomorrow. Most of the people who have changed world faced immense criticism. However they focused on the end goal. Today we live in a generation that requires immediate results. This means that the respect for hard work is losing appeal. The youths seek identity from social media and peer influence. Some only make choices because of what they immediately gain. So they lose their identity in the process.

In a nation where over 70% of the population is below 30 years there is a need for mentorship of these young people. So many parents think that when a child reaches university all is cut out . If this was the case why do we have many cases of university students diverting tuition into gambling and drugs? There is a need to confront the loss of identity of most of the youths. Most of them are focused on accumulating material benefits at the expense of clarifying their life purpose and values. There is a need for a paradigm shift.

HOW TO FIND OUR PURPOSE

3.Associate with successful people

4.Set clear values

5.Avoid instant gratification

6.Read self help books

7.Seek mentorship and coaching

8.Have a coachable spirit

9.Learn from the past

Purpose is very important in life. People and organizations that have changed the world have a clear purpose . We can emulate this lesson from them.

A SAVINGS PLAN CAN AID IN FINANCIAL ADVANCEMENT

 I remember during the Trainer of Trainers training conducted by Bank of Uganda we were encouraged to develop a savings plan. This was a key development because without a plan we may live in financial darkness. WE CELEBRATE GRADUATION BUT AFTER THAT WHAT NEXT ?

 Uganda is officially dominated by young people. Over 50 %of the population are youths. With a high population the job market also shrinks yet people need to survive. It is the means of survival that create social pressure. The unemployment dilemma in the country can be dissected from different angles and each person or all stakeholders have a critical role to play.  Universities and other institutions of higher learning produce over 300,000 graduates per year. The job creation rate is about 70,000 jobs per year. This means that the job market is narrow. It is a common sight to see over 100 applicants for one job. This is a signal that something drastic must be done to change this trajectory.
