EVERY PERSON HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME WEALTHY

Foe the past 5 years I have been in the business of conducting financial literacy training especially among the youths who form the majority in the country(over 70%of Ugandans are below 30 years). I have learnt a lot as an individual out of interacting with communities. One of the lessons that I have picked is that Ugandans are very enterprising and resilient people. With this attribute , I have noted that given the right conditions and support every Ugandan has the potential to become wealthy and positively transform their communities.

A case in point is a young man who attended a financial literacy training organized by Equity Bank .This was a moment of transformation for him. Fast forward the youth has set up various enterprises that are employing very many young people. He is now a respected leader in the community. The issue is that financial advancement starts with self belief. People who have changed their financial circumstances are never defined by their environment or their past. Many of the entrepreneurs who have built vast financial empires did so out of conviction and dreaming big. A large part of my time is spent convincing trainees to believe in their dreams. We live in a society where the masses only define themselves by what they have accomplished today. This is far from the truth. Each individual can achieve much more if they let go of fear and self doubt. Oprah Winfrey was born in a poor family but had a dream that one day she will be come wealthy. Today she is one of the wealthiest women on the planet.

Due to lack of self belief a number of young people undermine the little money they have. They end up using it on unplanned ventures instead of investing it. A number of university students have prolonged their wealth creation journey by waiting to graduate to start up businesses. Bill Gates started Microsoft as a university project and today it is a global company. What if he had doubted himself? What would the world miss? What about Thomas Edison who was criticized but did not quit. So many young people have great business ideas but have allowed the opinions of others to silence them. But if we are to read and observe people who have changed the world, they ignored critics.

The journey to financial advancement will not be easy but it is key to look at the end in mind. This is what has motivated Indians who come to Uganda with almost nothing and within one year they have successful businesses. There is no money that is too little to start a business or to change a life. What matters is the size of the vision.

HOW TO RESPECT MONEY

1.Have a long term vision

2.Seek financial mentorship

3.Save as you earn

4.Research before you invest

5.Create an emergency fund

6.Create a budget

7.Live within your means

8.Learn from past mistakes

9.Take calculated risks

10. Celebrate your progress.

A human being has unlimited potential. Unfortunately many define themselves by what they currently see. This is a limited view of life. If Oprah Winfrey was born in a poor family and today is one of the wealthiest women on the planet, who says that dear reader you can not alter your financial destiny?
