DO NOT SECOND GUESS YOURSELF ON THE JOURNEY TO FINANCIAL ADVANCEMENT

 We all have the potential for greatness. Unfortunately so many people have been beaten by life's struggles that they have given up on their dreams. I see it on a daily  basis in my work as a financial literacy trainer. We all have both strengths and weaknesses. But the biggest mistake that most people make is to focus on their weaknesses. No leader of influence has changed the world when they focus on their weaknesses. I talk to so many university students and so many of them have a lot of potential but the blunder that most make is to focus on their weaknesses. In their talk they do not believe in the beauty of their dreams . They speak without faith.

History is dominated by men and women who almost had nothing and today they are billionaires. I want to bring to your attention the story of Oprah Winfrey who was born from a poor family but had a vision that one day she would become an important person. Today she is among the wealthiest women in the world. Her story is well articulated in Think And Grow Rich: A Black Choice by Dr. Dennis Kimbro. What about Professor Muhammad Yunus who founded Grameen Bank as a project to cater for less privileged poor in Bangladesh. Today Grameen Bank is a pace setter in the Microfinance Industry in the world.

Today we live in a generation that is hell bent on attaining instant success. This has led to a lot of frustration among the youths who form the majority of the population. So many youths in a bid to attain quick wealth have ended up investing in get rich schemes and have lost a lot of money in the process.

HOW TO REVAMP OUR FINANCES

1.Have a clear financial vision

2.Set clear financial goals

3.Create an emergency fund

4.Learn from past mistakes

5.Save As You Earn

6. Automate your savings

7.Celebrate small wins or personal progress

Every person has the potential to advance financially. However everything starts in the mind. We should take an effort to develop our money habits as discussed above.

THRIVING AMIDST UNEMPLOYMENT

 Ask any graduate what their worst night mare is and they will inform you that lack of access to a dignified employment opportunity is a big hurdle. Over 70% of Ugandans are below the age of 30 years of age. There are very many reasons why the unemployment rate needs to be addressed. Uganda has over 30 universities and all universities graduate over 300,000 graduates per year yet the formal sector produces on average 70,000 jobs. This mismatch is an indicator of the frustrations that the young people face. It was on media last year when I saw a group of able bodied youths who wanted to beat up staff of a sports betting company for failing to pay for their "Return on Investment" in Bugiri District. WE CELEBRATE GRADUATION BUT AFTER THAT WHAT NEXT ?

 Uganda is officially dominated by young people. Over 50 %of the population are youths. With a high population the job market also shrinks yet people need to survive. It is the means of survival that create social pressure. The unemployment dilemma in the country can be dissected from different angles and each person or all stakeholders have a critical role to play.  Universities and other institutions of higher learning produce over 300,000 graduates per year. The job creation rate is about 70,000 jobs per year. This means that the job market is narrow. It is a common sight to see over 100 applicants for one job.
