EVERY PERSON'S FINANCIAL JOURNEY IS UNIQUE

 There are a lot of times when we doubt our individual financial decisions. Many times we want to relive our past. Did we know that even the richest people that we admire have made terrible financial mistakes? The difference is in their attitude and determination to improve. We are all a work in progress but many times self comparisons and self doubt prevent us from making the much needed progress in life.

In my journey as a financial literacy trainer I have seen people who seemed to have little in terms of resources but their determination to become better financially made the life time difference. I have met market vendors who seem to earn less than the majority but overtime have been able to accumulate savings. The difference is that they took action on their dreams. Nothing is static in life and this means that our financial lives can also improve with the right attitudes. Many times people give up on saving for their goals after being discouraged by their associates. Harv Eker in his book Secrets of A Millionaire Mind notes that there are billions of opinions in the world and we should be careful about which opinions we listen to. 

A number of resourceful youths have diverted their money to unplanned ventures simply because they listened to friends who advised them otherwise. Iam not trying to say that it is bad to listen to advice but Iam just noting that we should be careful where we seek advice from. Advice should be sought from experienced people. Just last year there was a company that duped so many Ugandans of their hard earned money and it closed. This was after promising them abnormal returns . So it is important to note that though investment is risky due diligence must be made so as to safeguard our scarce resources.

HOW TO ENHANCE OUR FINANCIAL JOURNEY

1.Develop a long term perspective to finances

2.Seek financial mentorship 

3.Save As you Earn

4.Start small

5. Track your expenses

6.Embrace financial literacy training

7. Live with in your means

8.Develop a budget.


We all have unique journeys in life. This also relates to our finances. There are people whom we can emulate that have made the right financial decisions. we might not have to reinvent the wheel. With a lot of financial knowledge present in today's world we can all improve in our financial lives.

THRIVING AMIDST UNEMPLOYMENT

 Ask any graduate what their worst night mare is and they will inform you that lack of access to a dignified employment opportunity is a big hurdle. Over 70% of Ugandans are below the age of 30 years of age. There are very many reasons why the unemployment rate needs to be addressed. Uganda has over 30 universities and all universities graduate over 300,000 graduates per year yet the formal sector produces on average 70,000 jobs. This mismatch is an indicator of the frustrations that the young people face.  According to Dr. Dennis Kimbro in his book Think And Grow Rich  every human being is an acre of diamonds. In simple terms we have more potential than we can imagine.
