WILL SOCIETY ALWAYS APPROVE WHAT YOU SEE?

 The late Dr. Myles Munroe in his book the Power and Purpose of Vision noted that vision is a gift. Visionary leaders are the ones who have shaped society. Dr. Myles Munroe also noted that the wealthiest place on earth is the cemetery. This is because that is where projects that were not implemented reside. For a long time many of us have been victims of fear. We have grand dreams but the inner doubts inform us that we are not good enough. In most cases we quit. It is only those with courage that persist.

Brian Tracy in his book The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success noted that doubt and fear are the greatest enemies to human progress. Many people have locked out their chances of financial advancement simply because they fear banks. Others have been influenced by their peers that they should stop being so ambitious. I am not trying to propose that we should always ignore advice . My only concern is whether we should only implement what we believe in as a result of consent from the masses. Dr. Muhammad Yunus started Grameen Bank after realizing that big banks were neglecting the poor. He started it as a project and today it is a pace setter in the microfinance industry. Bill Gates started Microsoft as a project at university and he dropped out. Today he is one of the wealthiest men in the world. Many of the leading entrepreneurs started small and some were laughed at by the masses but their inner resolve made them persist.

In a nation where over 70% of the population is below 30 years there is a tendency for the youths to be excited by get rich schemes that promise abnormal returns. Some reach the extent of diverting tuition to gambling. This affects their studies and they lose out.

HOW TO DEVELOP COURAGE SO AS TO PURSUE YOUR GOALS

1.Have a big vision for your life

2.Assciate with successful people

3.Invest in life long learning

4.Develop a positive attitude

5.Learn from past mistakes

6.Focus on serving humanity

7.Avoid succumbing to peer pressure

8.Celebrate small wins


Visionary leaders are the ones that drive transformation in society. Do they find it easy? No. As shown above the minority who have a clear vision and believe in themselves end up shaping the world. If others can we too can.

THRIVING AMIDST UNEMPLOYMENT

 Ask any graduate what their worst night mare is and they will inform you that lack of access to a dignified employment opportunity is a big hurdle. Over 70% of Ugandans are below the age of 30 years of age. There are very many reasons why the unemployment rate needs to be addressed. Uganda has over 30 universities and all universities graduate over 300,000 graduates per year yet the formal sector produces on average 70,000 jobs. This mismatch is an indicator of the frustrations that the young people face. WE CELEBRATE GRADUATION BUT AFTER THAT WHAT NEXT ?

 Uganda is officially dominated by young people. Over 50 %of the population are youths. With a high population the job market also shrinks yet people need to survive. It is the means of survival that create social pressure. The unemployment dilemma in the country can be dissected from different angles and each person or all stakeholders have a critical role to play.  Universities and other institutions of higher learning produce over 300,000 graduates per year. The job creation rate is about 70,000 jobs per year. This means that the job market is narrow. It is a common sight to see over 100 applicants for one job.
