EVERY BODY CARRIES INFINITE POTENTIAL

How comes am not as successful as my colleagues was a question that I was asked by a certain  youth during a recent financial literacy talk at a certain university. This is one of the dominant questions that runs in the minds of most people ( even if they do not admit it publicly). The human mind is wired to compare with its circumstances. It is the desire of every human being to be better than they are and that is a noble aspiration.

Dr. Myles Munroe noted that the ignorance of purpose leads to abuse of potential. Just recently in the news there is a man who admitted to having been part of the people who killed a prominent business man in town( this is an abuse of potential).Last year a suspected witch doctor was arrested for killing two innocent children in Kiboga District.

Without knowing our God given potential we are bound to abuse it. We have seen international musicians destroyed by drugs . In a nation that is predominantly youth, the message of potential and purpose is very critical. This is because without a clear purpose we are bound to make choices based on short term results. Why would a university student divert tuition money into gambling? There is a certain university vice chancellor who warned university students about the use of drugs. One would think that since students are at university they will control themselves. Unfortunately those who have graduated from university can attest the students are so vulnerable to negative forces. This is because it is assumed that a student at university is mature enough to make life altering decisions.

If a student knows their clear purpose they will make different choices than they are currently making. Unfortunately we are in a society that is fast bent on self comparisons that youths have been forced to belong to wrong groups because they want to" blend".

It was the message of knowing her life purpose that Oprah Winfrey became one of the richest black women in the world. It was because of knowing his infinite potential that Nelson Mandela was able to withstand the pressures and be imprisoned for 27 years( who on earth can really be that persistent?) It was because of knowing her distinct purpose that Mother Teresa became a world icon.

HOW TO MAXIMISE OUR POTENTIAL

1. Have a close relationship with God

2.Develop a clear purpose for your life

3.Acquire a mentor or coach

4.Set clear goals

5. Think long term

6.Embrace life long learning

7. Associate with successful people

8.Think positive

9.Embrace personal discipline

10.Embrace service

Everyone has potential. But I have met university graduates who do not believe in their dreams. I have interacted with youths who say they have nothing to do with their lives yet they are alive( that is tragic). There are some youths who are waiting for external approval to make a difference in the world( isn't that too late?). So literally from the above one can assert that the discussion about human potential is very important especially in today's fast changing world. If others can make it then you too can.
