ROAD CONSTRUCTION: LESSONS ABOUT SUCCESS

 The road to where I stay is under construction. It is messy especially when it rains. No one loves that experience and motorists normally look for alternative routes to avoid the inconvenience. What lessons do we pick from this in relation to success in life? Every one wishes to succeed in the various dimensions of our lives, how ever the process requires patience and determination. In his book Think And Grow Rich: A Black Choice, Dr. Dennis Kimbro gives examples of so many black Americans who rose from poverty to become world influencers. These include Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Ben Carson.

How did Dr. Ben Carson become a famous neurosurgeon? In his book Think Big, Dr. Ben Carson notes that he used to be the last in class. It took the mother's intervention for him to improve his grades. From then  on he started to top the class until he became a famous neurosurgeon. In today's world we tend to focus on the top rather than building the road to success. As a financial literacy trainer I have trained so many youths who focus on getting the loan rather than getting prepared for the loan. In this way many have received loans and have struggled to pay because they neglected the lessons. 

We need to build a culture among the young generation that success is built over time. The principles to wealth creation matter a great deal. All wealthy people that have stood the test of time focus on the building blocks. We have seen that roads that have been hurriedly constructed are also washed away by rain .It means that to construct a long lasting road the preparation matters a great deal. If care and a lot of attention is given to the road that is being constructed, then it will stand the test of time . 


Key lesson

The process of road construction is messy but after completion it is a beautiful road.

A SAVINGS PLAN CAN AID IN FINANCIAL ADVANCEMENT

 I remember during the Trainer of Trainers training conducted by Bank of Uganda we were encouraged to develop a savings plan. This was a key development because without a plan we may live in financial darkness. CELEBRATE YOUR VALUE ON THIS LABOR DAY

As we celebrate International Labor Day,70% of Uganda's population is below the age of 30 years. One of the biggest challenges of youths is access to dignified employment opportunities. So many youths have lost in their ability to find work and we have seen cases where they commit crime in order to survive. A case in point is a clip I saw on social media where a man who had panga cut innocent children after asking for a ransom from the parents . Such tragic incidents show us that lack of access to dignified employment opportunities makes people lose their sense of value.
