ASSOCIATE WITH SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE: A NECESSITY FOR SUCCESS IN LIFE

 Why would a group of youth plot to harm an innocent person to take away his or her valuable property? In the news it has been reported that there is an increase in crime in parts of Kampala . What causes this crime and where is society heading? In a nation where majority of the population is below 30 years such cases of crime are bound to happen when many young people do not have a source of living (this is not by any means to suggest that all youths are engaged in criminal acts). However the probability of engaging in crime increases when the youths have no access to decent jobs. These days walking at night is so risky unlike in the past. It means that the moral fiber of society is weakening and something needs to be done.


We must guide the youths to responsible living. Having read a number of books on success it has come to my attention that no person can succeed by accident. It requires having a clear purpose and guidance. Many of the youths believe that their success can come when they live in isolation and with out guidance. Many have made costly blunders because they fear to seek for help. A prime example of a leader who intentionally builds relationships is Dr. John Maxwell . Dr. John Maxwell is a leader who exposes vulnerability in his books by encouraging readers to look out for help from successful leaders. Dr. Dennis Kimbro is his great book ,Think And Grow Rich : A Black Choice, shares numerous examples of successful black Americans whose lives changed when they decided to associate with successful people. These include Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Washington Carver and Dr. Ben Carson.  These examples should influence us to mentor the youths into responsible living. We should not allow the majority of the youths to live by accident. If we do so the future prosperity of the country is in danger. 

The youths should pay the price for associating with successful people. It pains to live a disciplined life but it is the right way to go. So many youths want to escape a disciplined life and that is why a number "hate " personal growth. But the increasing cases of crime should motivate leaders to guide the youths into the right ways of living. It is the safest route to success. A youth was killed by a mob for murdering a prominent businessman in town . Had this youth been mentored, the story might have been different. 

We tend to write off people basing on their past and current circumstances but in the grand scheme of life every person has immense potential if well guided. To illustrate this a number of international music stars go for rehabilitation unlike here in Africa where some youths regard drug abuse as a lifestyle.

HOW TO SEEK SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE

1.Have a clear vision for your life

2.Seek successful coaches and mentors 

3.Form a master mind 

4.Join associations such as Rotary International and Toast Masters 

5.Focus on serving others

6.Listen to their podcasts 

7.Buy their books 

8.Be coachable 

9.Be useful 

10.Be humble

11.Avoid negative associations

12.Develop a positive attitude

13.Develop gratitude


Every body wishes to become successful some day. However it is difficult to become successful without associating with people who are ahead of you.

A SAVINGS PLAN CAN AID IN FINANCIAL ADVANCEMENT

 I remember during the Trainer of Trainers training conducted by Bank of Uganda we were encouraged to develop a savings plan. This was a key development because without a plan we may live in financial darkness. WE CELEBRATE GRADUATION BUT AFTER THAT WHAT NEXT ?

 Uganda is officially dominated by young people. Over 50 %of the population are youths. With a high population the job market also shrinks yet people need to survive. It is the means of survival that create social pressure. The unemployment dilemma in the country can be dissected from different angles and each person or all stakeholders have a critical role to play.  Universities and other institutions of higher learning produce over 300,000 graduates per year.
