AT ANY AGE APERSON CAN BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR

 Age has always been used as a barrier for not getting started. So many graduates are asserting that they are waiting for the ideal time to start their businesses. The adults in their advanced age are also explaining that they have no time to start a business or something significant in their lives. This is a paradox. Who is right or wrong? Unfortunately we are growing every day and there is no status quo. The earlier we realize that age should never be a barrier to transformation the better. 

In his 60's when Colonel Sanders contemplated suicide is when he realized that he had a recipe that would later turn into KFC which is now a global organization. Imagine what the world would be missing had he regarded age as a barrier to his creativity. Today KFC is employing millions of people and contributing to national development. When it comes to the young generation age should never be given as a barrier for enterprise development. Facebook started as a university project and now it is a global entity. Bill Gates started Microsoft at university and today it is a global company. There are countless young entrepreneurs who are shaping the world. What the young people require is mentorship. This is because they are capable of doing so much in a world that is full of opportunities. 

We can no longer afford to have a generation of idle youth when there are plenty of challenges to be resolved. The founder of Psalms Crisps started it as a business idea while at university and today he is a role model to so many young entrepreneurs. The youths should start with what they have. The biggest fear is to start and once one has started then the sky is the limit. The youths and adults should never fear to be criticized. Imagine what would have happened if Colonel Sanders had listened to his critics, Some times we simply have to follow our vision and adjust along the way.

Age should never be a barrier to personal progress.

 I remember during the Trainer of Trainers training conducted by Bank of Uganda we were encouraged to develop a savings plan. This was a key development because without a plan we may live in financial darkness.  Joseph (not real name) set up a retail shop and after a month he closed it because of lack of customers. The question is, what went wrong?
