YOUR DEGREE IS RELEVANT TO SOCIETY.

We are at a crossroads as a nation. A number of gradates are losing hope in why they graduated. Recently I interacted with a group of university students and asked them where they will be after graduation . Their responses were not very appealing. It is important to redefine why students are at university. Without knowing the clear purpose of something it is bound to be abused. It is not surprising to find a graduate doing "nothing" despite having graduated with good academic grades. It is critical that a graduate takes time to reflect about the relevance of his degree to the world.

The question is, if a school dropout can positively impact the world, what on earth can stop a graduate from making an impact in their community. Today a number of graduates fear their own brilliance. Without taking stock of the previous academic certificates , a number of them rush to pursue more studies without first using the previous knowledge. Is it bad to amass more knowledge? The answer is no. What is critical is to ensure that we nurture a generation of youths who have a curious mindset.

The tendency of lecturers failing students who give contrary answers to what they know forces students to simply cram. This explains why a number of university students feel out of place in the real world. They become frustrated by the fact that what they studied is not easily replicated in real world situations.

The hope to a graduate is that with a positive mindset a university graduate can become an asset to society. The gradates should know that even today's current leaders were once amateurs. What is missing among some of today's graduates is a long term perspective to life. They prefer a formal job as soon as they have graduated. With over 400,000 graduates being produced every year any graduate should be interested in knowing how best they can stand out amidst competition.

HOW TO BE A RELEVANT GRADUATE

1.Seek mentorship

2.Read with purpose

3.Volunteer wisely

4.Join the right groups

5.Seek personal growth.

Being a university graduate is a privilege. Every degree is valuable given the right perspective of the student. Unfortunately some university students feel they can maneuver without any guidance. It is tough out there for any graduate who moves without any guidance.
