NEVER DOUBT YOUR FINANCIAL ADVANCEMENT JOURNEY

For the last 5 years of providing grassroot financial literacy training I should say that I have seen countless resilient Ugandans who are focused on altering their financial landscape for good.  Though life is never easy, so many Ugandans desire for a better life. Despite the hard economic circumstances ,a person with hope has a chance of making better financial decisions. There is one market vendor whom I met prior to the training who explained to me that she was in a financial mess. I listened intently to her story and gave her hope that she would overcome financial challenges.

This lady accepted to attend the financial literacy training and was very active in class. She accepted that she had previously made various mistakes and she started by writing down her financial goals. This was a moment of excitement for her. She set really big goals and always reported to me her progress. She started to pay off her loans slowly and today she is more confident than before. She opened up an account and started saving consistently. She also sought financial advice from the bank on how she could   improve her business performance. Her sales have increased and she is in the process of applying for a business loan so as to expand her business operations.

The above story is an example of how a person in a precarious financial situation could overcome their financial mistakes .The example shows us that change starts with the willingness to confront our financial mistakes. One has to first analyze their current financial situation and be honest about their desired aspirations. Focusing on the present challenges without offsetting them leads to frustration.

HOWTO IMPROVE OUR INDIVIDUAL SAVINGS

1.Think long term

2.Create an emergency fund

3.Seek financial mentorship

4.Save As You Earn

5.Create a budget

6. Live within your means

7.Celebrate small victories.

A journey of 1000 miles starts with one step. Just because one is in a financial mess does not mean that he or she cannot overcome it. In a nation where over 70% of the population is below 30years it is vital that we train them in financial literacy so that they can alter their financial decisions while still young.
