SERVICE : THE PATHWAY TO GREATNESS

At a recent mentorship session a youth asked me a question, how fast can I get a job after university? It told him that it was very possible if he was willing to serve the world. Service is the quickest route to the world of influence. We are living in a generation where the masses want to get before adding value to the world. How possible is this when even Jesus the son of God focused on serving the world. This is partly one of the reasons why Christianity is a global movement. Is service a tough journey? It should not be. The ideology of service to humanity has to be amplified.

Why do we remember the likes of Mother Tereza and Nelson Mandela? This is because these were ordinary people who dedicated their lives to serving the world. For example Mother Teresa did not wait to amass wealth to serve the poor. She simply decided to serve the most neglected in India Calcutta. This gift of service over time gained her world wide attention. Professor Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh started a community initiative to serve the poor and today Grameen Bank is a pace setter for the Microfinance industry in the world. The question is, what if he had doubted himself? The world is suffering because people are either discounting their gifts or are waiting for others to solve problems. The bitter truth is that the world is waiting for you and me to gain the courage and solve that prevailing problem at a global scale. Will it be easy? Probably not. Will it cost you of your time? Yes. But if you are to leave a mark on the planet we shall have to serve the world.

Few people have got good jobs without being referred. How will others know about our inherent value without being intentional in serving others? I spend a lot of time talking to the youths who for the majority in this country about financial literacy matters. These include university students who are the future leaders of the nation. I challenge them to use their gifts to serve the world. Those course units that one has studied can add value to someone in their community. If everyone waits for the perfect conditions to serve then it will be to late. Many times others let fear define them but why allow inner doubts from preventing us from adding value to others.

John Maxwell is one of those leaders who inspire us to act on our dreams and serve the world. Even in his later years he is still enthusiastically adding value to the world. He has written countless books that are impacting the world. We need to emulate these leaders because each one of us has a unique contribution that they can make to the world. There is someone out there who needs our experience and words of wisdom. We should not give room to our doubts,

Service a great word that is given a less attention today. It has the power to make us rich but most youths prefer handouts. This has given rise to gambling and get rich schemes. We are building a generation of youths who prefer physical cash even without working. But all the richest men in the world have something that they sell. The question to us is, what are we serving to the world that will compel the world to pay for. Bill Gates sells Technology. Oprah Winfrey serves the world through entertainment. Professor Wavamunno sells luxurious cars.

In order to change the trajectory of Uganda, much attention must be given to serving the world. Te youths should get up, identify the challenges faced by the community and serve willingly. They should not only focusing on gaining money. Money is a by product of serving the world with our gifts. Life is an opportunity to serve and not just to get,

HOW TO SERVE THE WORLD.

1.Realize that every life matters

2.Start from now

3.Use your past experiences as a lesson

4.Be willing to try.

5.Volunteer your time

6.Disregard your doubts

7.Join associations

8.Learn from others who serve

9.Act on your goals

10.Over come fear

11.Celebrate your wins.

What is the shortcut to greatness? It is the dreaded act of service. This is a term that we should popularize in a world that is becoming so competitive. Our gifts are needed in the world.
