IS TRUE SUCCESS BASED ON LUCK?
It is common knowledge that everyone wants a better life. The question is why is it few people who achieve their dreams? Recently I was in a mentoring conversation with one of my mentees. She told me that some people get jobs due to luck. Is this true? I took the opportunity to inform the mentee that though luck plays a part, it is not enough. If we study successful people who have left a mark on the world, they set their own agenda and pursued it. Was it easy for them? The answer is no. Nelson Mandela one of the great African icons spent 27 years in prison. He was driven by a greater cause. What about Mother Teresa who cared for the neglected poor people in India. What about Oprah Winfrey who was born in a poor family but had a vision that she would become one of the wealthiest women in the world.
The stories above should motivate us that we can not wait for luck to change the world .God has deposited in each one of us can do power to change our circumstances. Unfortunately many wait for external parties to make the changes. I know of a young man who attended a financial literacy training organized by Equity Bank. Today the youth is employing several other youths in his community. Had he left his future to fate he would also be another powerless youth. Uganda is privileged to have so many young people but I see a number of them giving in to fate. They have allowed their circumstances to define them yet they can do something constructive with their lives. We need to know that our human potential is unlimited and we should draw out this potential out of the so many youths who do not know that they possess it.
Countless youths have diverted the limited resources that they have into gambling with the view that they will get instant riches. This explains why it is common to find youths boozing early in the morning. If this trend continues, where is Uganda heading. We need a generation of youths who collaborate to seek for wealth building opportunities such as setting up of investment clubs and Community Based Organizations instead of waiting for handouts which are not sustainable.
HOW TO ACHIEVE LASTING SUCCESS
1.Think long-term
2.Develop a positive mindset
3.Associate with successful people
4.Learn from failures
5.Think big
6.Seek financial mentorship
True success is measured not by luck but it is within reach of everyone. The youths of Uganda should not base their lives on fate. Rather they should focus on building and maximizing their God given potential.
