PRIVATE VICTORY PRECEDES PUBLIC VICTORY
A certain youth noted that he works hard but he does not get the results that he deserves or expects. He is not alone. Countless people in this nation are not happy with their results especially in the area of finances. We seem to struggle and at most survive. I have come to appreciate that financial literacy training is a key intervention in changing our financial landscapes. Many youths want to achieve success overnight. However it is not easy. Great success requires persistence and determination. Most of the world's most successful people started to alter their lives when they altered their thinking. Many youths misuse the little money they have simply because of lack of awareness.
As a financial literacy trainer I have made it a point to expose myself to a number of mentors and Iam always learning. There is no single day that I should not learn. We are all on a journey to progress. The moment a person stops learning is the day him or herself will bury themselves while they are still alive. So many youths lack grand dreams for their lives. They live for tomorrow and expect different results. Many have lost hard earned money to Ponzi schemes due to lack of financial literacy training. Unfortunately some youths do not want to learn or to listen to advice. All successful people such as Dr. John Maxwell have mentors who shape their lives. Dr. John Maxwell attributes his success to mentors such as John Wooden. Harv Eker noted in his book Secrets of A Millionaire Mind that rich and successful people think long term. The question that we pose to the youths is do they have long term goals for their lives and do they have passion to pursue those goals even without a guarantee of immediate success?
HOW TO PREPARE FOR LONGTERM SUCCESS
1.Have faith in God
2.Have a clear vision
3. Attend financial literacy training
4.Invest in personal development
5.Associate with successful people
6.Think long term
7.Have a service mindset
8. Travel for exposure
9.Use your time wisely
10.Add value to humanity
Every one wants to succeed. However it is not an easy journey. In fact Robert Schuller noted that Tough Times Never Last but Tough people Do. We should not expect to become an overnight success but rather focus on adding value to ourselves every day as we seek to succeed in the long run.
