BEING UNEMPLOYED DOES NOT DIMINISH YOUR VALUE

It is a right for everyone to have a decent job. Unfortunately times have changed. In the past when there was still one university employers would pick students even before graduating. The population had not yet increased to what it is today. Today universities produce over 300,000 graduates amidst a job creation rate of about 70,000 jobs per year. There is a lot of depression among the youths because they lack a decent job. Without a job a youth will lose his or her confidence. The high rate of crime is attributed to the high rate of unemployment. The youths who harm others so as to steal their valuable property in most cases do it because they lack the basic means of survival.

There is hope for an unemployed youth. Lack of a decent job does not mean one is a failure. The yardstick for measuring success in the adult life is different from school dynamics. Did you know that some of  the most successful entrepreneurs are school dropouts? Iam a great advocate of education and I will remain one. If it was not education I would not be writing this article. However we need a paradigm shift as a nation. With so many unemployed youths who are losing faith in education, there is a need to give them hope that all hope is not lost. In his book, Think And Grow Rich: A Black Choice, Dr. Dennis Kimbro gives several examples of Black Americans who were born in poor families but ended up very successful. These include Hellen Keller, Dr. Washington Carver and Oprah Winfrey. The biggest challenge with today's youths is that they want to succeed overnight. The other day I heard a group of youths who said that they did not believe in stories where it was said that an entrepreneur could start with limited capital and grow rich. With this mentality it explains why many youths end up losing their money to get rich schemes. Just last year there was a company that duped many people of their hard earned money and closed.

HOW UNEMPLOYMENT CAN BE TURNED INTO A BLESSING

1.Value technical or vocational education

2.Associate with successful people who add value to you.

3.Acquire additional training in short courses

4.Solve community problems

5.Initiate projects that add value to humanity

6.Ask questions and have a curious mindset

7.Learn about money

8.Choose to become a job creator

9.Join professional associations

10.Serve humanity

11.Think long term

12.Be coachable

It is never an easy experience to lack a job. In fact most crimes in society are related to lack of access to a decent job. All hope is not lost for an unemployed youth. As shown above with the right mindset and connections youths can become agents of social transformation
