POWER OF VISION FOR A UNIVERSITY STUDENT

 There was a youth who joined university and because of lack of guidance he misused his time and joined wrong groups. He was on government scholarship but due to failure to meet expectations he was expelled from university. A number of students have joined university after passing national exams highly and have failed to meet expectations .

It seems society thinks that when a student joins university he or she is mature enough to make the right decisions. On the contrary there are students who totally get "lost" at university. University is supposed to be a place where a student is supposed to explore their potential but there are students who only focus their attention on passing exams. They do not take time to use the time at university to explore other dimensions of life. By the time they graduate they are shocked by what awaits them in the real world. 

Students who maximize university life are those who from the initial stage have a clear purpose and are open to learning. I heard of a case of a university student who did not study for three years and when the date for graduation was near he lied to the parents. Also there was a student who diverted tuition for gambling. Recently I heard a certain university vice chancellor warning students against drugs.

HOW TO MAXIMISE UNIVERSITY TIME

1.Have a clear purpose for life. A student who wants to become a medical doctor can not afford to associate with drug addicts or time wasters.

2.Associate with successful people. Most successful leaders plotted their success from university by associating with leaders with a clear destiny.

3.Mentorship and coaching are key drivers to a successful future.

4.Time management. Maximize your time at university.

5. Life long learning. We now live in a knowledge economy. Learning never ends.


From the above it is safe to say that a student without a clear vision at university can destroy their life. Setting a clear vision is a key indicator of a student who will be successful in life. If it is possible for others then it is possible for you too.

A SAVINGS PLAN CAN AID IN FINANCIAL ADVANCEMENT

 I remember during the Trainer of Trainers training conducted by Bank of Uganda we were encouraged to develop a savings plan. This was a key development because without a plan we may live in financial darkness. WE CELEBRATE GRADUATION BUT AFTER THAT WHAT NEXT ?

 Uganda is officially dominated by young people. Over 50 %of the population are youths. With a high population the job market also shrinks yet people need to survive. It is the means of survival that create social pressure. The unemployment dilemma in the country can be dissected from different angles and each person or all stakeholders have a critical role to play.  Universities and other institutions of higher learning produce over 300,000 graduates per year.
